As expected, a lot went down in season 5, part 1, especially during the finale that left fans wondering what's next for the group.
Here is the ultimate breakdown of the Lucifer season 5, part 1 ending.
*Major spoilers for season 5, part 1 of Lucifer below!*
What happened at the end of season 5, part 1 of Lucifer?
The mid-season finale kick starts right where the previous episode had ended off. Dan shoots Lucifer and Chloe runs to his side after he's knocked down. In a surprise twist, Lucifer has his invulnerability back and the bullet didn't actually hurt him. Dan is shocked to see that Lucifer is actually the Devil, like Michael had said. Dan is conflicted after hearing Chloe's side of things and reveals that Michael was the one who had told him to go after Lucifer to help save the world.
Meanwhile, Ella's current BF, Pete, gives her a key to his apartment and she starts to question everything as she feels like they're moving too fast. Chloe confronts Lucifer at the police station, who is trying to find a way to get back at Dan, and reveals to him that while they believe they caught the serial killer, something isn't completely adding up. They visit Klumpsky in jail and he messes up the details of some of the previous murders in the case leading Chloe to think there is someone else out there with the same MO.
Chloe gets angry with Lucifer who is more concerned with pulling a prank on Dan, while she begins her search to find out who the other killer is. However, when she discovers a big detail in the case, she is suddenly kidnapped while leaving a voicemail to Lucifer. Angry with himself that he let this happen, Lucifer starts going on a rampage looking for her.
At Chloe's house, Ella and Lucifer decide to work together and try to solve the case before its too late. They head to the address that Chloe left for them, but it turns out to be a informant's address who was going to help the detective figure out who is behind the murders. Lucifer calls Maze to get some help in trying to find Chloe, while Amenadiel starts to freak out due to Charlie having a fever. At another address that is linked to the killer, Elle and Lucifer find a body and start to grow more concerned for Chloe. Pete arrives and tells Elle that he has done research on the killer and she is able to go over to his place to check them out.
Lucifer tries to get Amenadiel to stop time to help him find Chloe, but he reassures him that he lost his power and it's no longer possible. Maze visits Klumpsky who gives up more info on the killer and what he does in order to find his victims. Elle heads to Pete's house to look at the files and discovers a secret room where the flowers that have been found in all of the victim's bodies are being grown. She comes to the realization that Pete is actually the original killer. Pete returns home, finds out that Elle knows, and tries to kill her. However, she stabs him and he is taken to the precinct for questioning.
Elle asks him why he kills women and he reveals that it's due to his childhood and the fact that his mom used to yell at him when he was younger. He also reveals that he's not the one behind Chloe's disappearance. Maze thinks a bit and tells Lucifer that she believes Michael is the one who took kidnapped her.
Michael appears in a cave where Chloe is currently being held and plants doubt about her relationship with Lucifer. Back at the precinct, Lucifer and Dan finally talk and he reveals to him that Chloe has been taken by Michael. Dan says that he thinks he knows where Michael took Chloe, leading the rest of the team to find her. At the hospital, Michael visits Amenadiel and tells him that he should not be celebrating the fact that Charlie only has a cold because this means the baby is human.
Back at the cave, Michael returns and Maze attacks him for kidnapping Chloe. However, he convinces her to join his side as a way to get back at Lucifer. Chloe thanks the team for finding her and her and Lucifer talk about their relationship. She feels like she's pushing Lucifer into doing something he doesn't want to do, but just as he is about to say "I love you," time stops. After finding Amenadiel, he reveals his powers are back and he is currently freaking out cause Charlie is also frozen, confirming that he's mortal.
Michael and Maze come in and they all get into a fight with each other. Lucifer asks Maze why she joined Michael's side and she says that he promised her a soul. As the three angels spread their wings, a mysterious voice tells them to stop. Lucifer looks over and says "Dad?" as God appears and tells them that he "hates to see them when they fight" and the screen goes to black.
What does the ending mean for season 5, part 2 of Lucifer?
For the first time in the series, God has appeared, making this a total family affair. As we already know, Lucifer is not on the best of terms his dad after everything that had gone down in his earlier years, which means that things will certainly get interesting on that front.
Meanwhile, Elle will have to deal with the aftermath of finding out that Pete was the real killer. Chloe and Lucifer will have to have a BIG talk about their relationship when time starts again. Amenadiel and Dr. Martin must come to terms with Charlie being mortal. Dan's relationship with Lucifer will certainly be different now that he knows he's the actual devil.
With Michael still on Earth and us still in the dark on what God has up his sleeve, guess we'll just have to wait until part two is released to find out what happens next.
