Brazilians mark 500,000 COVID deaths

Hundreds of candles illuminated Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro cities as Brazil became the second country to pass 500,000 COVID-19 deaths after the United States.

In Sao Paulo, people placed candles at Largo da Memoria's steps, the city's downtown, while in Rio de Janeiro, demonstrators gathered at Floriano square.

Protesters mourned the deaths and called for the resignation of President Jair Bolsonaro over what they say is his mishandling of pandemic.
