Brazilian Influencer and Reality TV Star, 29, Dies After Liposuction Surgery
Luana Andrade died Tuesday after undergoing a procedure in São Paulo, Brazil
A Brazilian influencer and reality TV star has died at the age of 29 after undergoing liposuction surgery.
According to local media outlet Globo 1, Luana Andrade died on Tuesday in a São Paulo hospital following an “aesthetic procedure.”
The outlet reported that approximately two and a half hours into the surgery at São Luiz Hospital on Monday, Andrade suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken to the ICU, but died Tuesday morning.
"Patient Luana Andrade was admitted, accompanied by her family, on Monday afternoon to the unit for a liposuction procedure, carried out by a private surgeon and anesthetist hired by the family,” the hospital said in a statement, per Globo 1.
“After approximately two and a half hours of surgery, the patient presented with an abrupt respiratory event and went into cardiac arrest, being immediately resuscitated by the team.”

The statement continued, "The surgery was interrupted, and the patient underwent tests that revealed massive thrombosis. She was transferred to the ICU, where she underwent medication and hemodynamic treatment.”
“Despite all the efforts of the hospital team, she progressed unfavorably and died around 5:30 a.m. today [Tuesday]. The cause of death was massive pulmonary embolism."
According to the Mayo Clinic, a pulmonary embolism is “a blood clot that blocks and stops blood flow to an artery in the lung. In most cases, the blood clot starts in a deep vein in the leg and travels to the lung.”

Andrade, who had 558,000 followers on Instagram, was known for starring in season 6 of the Brazilian reality show Power Couple with her boyfriend João Hadad, per the outlet.
Following her death, Hadad paid a heartbreaking tribute to his girlfriend of two years on social media.
