Brandon Flowers says he apologised to John Mayer after Oasis-style ‘s*** talking’
Brandon Flowers says he once apologised to John Mayer after what he described as a bout of Oasis-inspired s***-talking.
The Killers frontman spoke to Phoebe Bridgers in a conversation recently published in Interview magazine.
Flowers said at one point that “when we first started, I used to trash talk a lot of people”.
When Bridgers pressed him on the topic, he added: “Oh, I talked about other bands. I grew up idolising Oasis, and they wrote great songs, but they were also just big s***-talkers.
“For some reason, I thought to gain respect that was part of the territory.”
Flowers said he eventually apologised to several people later on.
Specifically, he recounted doing so with John Mayer after encountering the singer at a restaurant in Los Angeles.
“I walked up to the table, and he was in the middle of a circle. It wasn’t a square table—he was in between people, so I couldn’t just talk to him,” Flowers said.
“I just addressed the whole table, and I was like, ‘I said this about John, and I regret it man, and I’m sorry.’”
According to Flowers, Mayer was “really gracious” during the exchange.
While Flowers didn’t specify which incident led him to apologise to Mayer, he was quoted in a 2005 Rolling Stone interview stating: “What song do I hate? I think ‘Daughters,’ by John Mayer, would be a good candidate. I don’t know why he bugs me so bad.”
