The Amazon Prime series is based on a set of graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and it proved a huge success when it premiered last year – which means we're desperate for any information we can get about season 2.
And today (March 9) The Boys has treated us to a new teaser in the form of a new character, played by You're the Worst star Aya Cash.
Cash plays Stormfront, the newest member of The Seven who will definitely stir up some serious trouble for Homelander (Antony Starr) and the rest of the supes when the show returns.
"She's the grenade that gets thrown into Homelander's world and the world of the Seven," actor Antony Starr teased to Entertainment Weekly. "She really causes me so many problems."
In the comic book series Stormfront is a male character, seen as a mix of Thor and Shazam!, and Cash has teased that her take on the character is an "empowered" woman.
"I think Stormfront is like a nuclear bomb that goes off in the Seven," Cash explained. "Maybe nuclear bomb isn't the right word. We're in Chernobyl. There you go. It's a Chernobyl thing.
"I think she's here to blow up Vought. She's here to try to get Vought back to the original idea behind creating superheroes... And she can be quite the feminist. There's a lot of, I wouldn't say misdirect, but she also is a very empowered woman."
Unlike Homelander and most of the egotistical heroes employed by Vought International, Stormfront seems keen to remind the company why they created – and branded – superheroes in the first place.
And Cash has also teased that Stormfront will prove a "massive challenge" for Homelander, adding: "He's almost like a Don Draper-era character and she's very young and new and fresh, and that's a massive challenge for him.
"[He's] used to everyone being scared of him. She matches him," she continued. "That's not to say she doesn't understand his power and tiptoe around it sometimes, but she's also willing to challenge him.
"Ultimately, I think the dynamic between the two is terrifying and will change who Homelander is."
But that's not to say that Stormfront doesn't have a few terrifying secrets of her own, as Cash also warned that "you start off this season thinking [Stormfront's] one thing and then discover she’s another".
"There are quite a few times where you'll identify with her as an audience member or agree with what she says," Cash added. "I think [those] are the most dangerous people."
The Boys is available to stream on on Amazon Prime Video.
