Bong Joon Ho Plans to Make ‘Six-Hour-Long’ Film For ‘Parasite’ HBO Limited Series
Oscar-nominated director Bong Joon Ho plans to make a six-hour-long film for HBO limited series of his acclaimed thriller “Parasite,” which is currently in talks.
“So I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” Bong told TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman on Wednesday at TheWrap screening series. “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
“For example when the original housekeeper Mun Gwang (Lee Jung Eun) comes back in the late-night, something happened to her face. Even her husband asked about it but she never answered,” Bong explained. “I know why she had the bruises on her face. I have a story for that and aside from that why does she know the existence of this bunker?”

“What relationship does she have with that architect to know of this bunker? So I have all these hidden stories that I have stored,” he added.
The Bong Joon Ho film became the first Korean movie ever to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and took six nominations in all, including Best International Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
The film centers on four members of a poor family who scam their way into the employ of a much wealthier family. Song Kang Ho, Lee Sun Kyun, Cho Yeo Jeong, Choi Woo Shik, Park So Dam, Lee Jung Eun and Chang Hyae Jin star.
Bong would serve as an executive producer on the HBO adaptation alongside “Succession” producer Adam McKay. Talks are ongoing, and creative details have not been fully worked out, including whether or not the potential project would be in English or Korean.
When asked by Waxman when we can see the limited series on the streamer, the director jokingly replied, “Maybe 2027.”
