The Bolshoi ballet is back in business
Moscow’s famed Bolshoi Theater
is getting ready to re-open
for its 245th season
after a months-long lockdown
(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) BOLSHOI THEATRE PRINCIPAL DANCER ALYONA KOVALEVA, SAYING:
"We have been at home for several months, unable to work in a dance room or stay in shape. So, getting ready was tougher, we started gradually - at first we only did classes, then we added rehearsals. Now the period when we just work on a play without performing it on stage is longer."
The theatre will premiere with the project
"Four Characters in Search of a Plot"
which includes four one-act ballets
staged by young foreign choreographers
(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHOREOGRAPHER, BRIAN ARIAS, SAYING:
"I feel that the project has evolved into something much bigger just also out of pure passion of returning to work, both for dancers and choreographers. Under the vision of Makhar we chose to go big or go home, so to speak. There has been a lot of passion and excitement."
