Bolivians reclaim the streets for Pedestrians Day

Bolivian pedestrians reclaim the streets

Location: La Paz, Bolivia

The National Day of the Pedestrian and Cyclist has been celebrated since 2011

to help raise environmental awareness among the locals

La Paz's normally congested streets were cleared of cars

and turned into a playground for various sports activities

as well as street artists and performers

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) BOLIVIAN, JAVIER ZARATE, SAYING:

"Fundamentally this helps us. To me this is the most important day this country has because we, the people, take back the public space, the streets and that generates a change. It's also a day in which we allow cars to rest and, therefore, we can breathe without pollution despite wearing face masks."
