A-Rod and Travis Kelce were a few of the celebrities who couldn’t beat Bobby Flay at the 2024 American Century Championship.

Speaking about the competition on The Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon, Flay, 59, said that although he had a middle-of-the-pack showing, he was happy about the fact that he bested the star athletes.

“I beat A-Rod and Travis Kelce, so I’m good,” Flay told Fallon on July 16. “I think I was like 58th or 59th out of 90, but I’ll take it.”

The former Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez came in 88th, while Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce was close behind Flay in 63rd. Kelce was seen dancing along to his girlfriend Taylor Swift's music during the tournament, including her songs "Lavender Haze" and "Cruel Summer."

At one point, a fan was heard yelling, "You still got Taylor," after Kelce hit a bad shot — to which the football player responded, "You ain't lyin' there."

The golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, which ran from July 12 to July 14, is an annual charity event run by NBC that features “some of sports and entertainment’s greatest celebrities,” according to the tournament’s website.

Flay also talked to Fallon about his “nerve-wracking” experience playing in the tournament.

“It was three days of aggravation. But it’s so fun,” said the Beat Bobby Flay star, whose other Food Network show Bobby’s Triple Threat premiered its third season on July 9. “Everyone thinks we’re having fun out there, but we’re grinding for pars. Everybody really, really wants to do well.”

On Wednesday, July 10, PEOPLE caught up with Flay on the course during the first day of practice. He spoke about his romantic life following his split from former girlfriend Christina Perez.

"I'm just relaxed right now," Flay told PEOPLE when asked about dating. "I mean, I don't really have anything to say about that. It's still kind of new for me, and I'm just looking forward to playing golf this week."

His Triple Threat premiere followed the release of the fifth season BBQ Brawl on July 8. So Flay seemed excited to take some time away to enjoy himself at the tournament.

“I love to play golf, I love Lake Tahoe. I mean, it's a great week here. With so much going on in my life, it's always nice to get out to a beautiful place like this for four or five hours,” he told PEOPLE.

"She claimed to be my plus one about two seconds after I got the invite," he told PEOPLE. "Sophie knows everybody at the Olympics, because she's worked it twice. So she knows all the NBC people over there. So I'm basically going to be following Sophie around."

The Bobby’s Burger Palace owner also called his daughter “a father’s dream.”

"She's amazing," he raved. "She is the full package when it comes to a daughter and a person, because she has a great work ethic. First of all, she's a sweetheart. I always use the word inclusive with Sophie. She makes everybody feel included. She always brings people together. She's got great energy, great spirit. She's a nice person, and she's smart, she's savvy."
