Boat with 440 rescued migrants docks in Italy

Charity group Sea Watch 3's vessel has been seeking a port to disembark for the past week, since rescuing the migrants from the Mediterranean.

Those onboard, mostly from Africa, were rescued late last week in five separate operations. They include around 200 minors, most of them unaccompanied, a Sea Watch spokesperson said.

On Christmas Day (December 25), the ship's crew members rescued 257 migrants from overcrowded wooden boats in the area of operation in international waters off the Libyan coast.

In the early morning of Christmas Eve (December 24), the rescuers saved 93 people including numerous unaccompanied minors from a double-decker wooden boat in distress in international waters south of the Italian island of Lampedusa and other 96 people were saved on December 26.

Six migrants on Monday (December 27) were evacuated from the ship on medical grounds and transferred to Sicily .
