The GALAXY Expands
You’ve read about it, and now you’ll get to buy one! Samsung’s GALAXY S5, the latest flagship of the GALAXY S line is available April 11, and is designed for what matters most to consumers. The new smartphone focuses on essential features for day-to-day use, with some innovative features thrown in for good measure.
The GALAXY S5 that is making it to our shores is the LTE model, and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a faster and more power-efficient quad-core processor than the Snapdragon 800. Supporting WiFI 802.11ac and 2×2 MIMO, the device has a Download Booster feature that bonds WiFi and LTE, resulting in a faster data connection.
A 16MP camera adorns the back, boasting an autofocus speed of 0.3 seconds. Users can capture High Dynamic Range (HDR) images without having to worry about jittery hands, as well as a Selective Focus feature that lets them focus on specific objects without having to invest in a custom lens kit.
Entering into the fitness bandwagon, the GALAXY S5 improves and refines on the features found in the GALAXY S4. S Health 3.0 is a comprehensive fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their fitness behaviour, along with tolls like a pedometer, diet and exercise records. The device also features a built-in heart rate sensor, located just below the camera. Most importantly, you can use the device whether rain or shine, as the GALAXY S5 is water- and dust-resistant, with an IP67 rating.
Tagging along with the GALAXY S5 are two new Gear wearables: the Gear 2 and Gear Fit. The Gear 2 is the successor to the GALAXY Gear, and now runs on Tizen. Improvements include replaceable watch straps as it moves the camera to the watch case, as well as longer battery life. The smartwatch also has 4GB of built-in memory for music, so you can listen to tunes during your morning jog. The Gear Fit is more fitness band than smartwatch, with a 1.84in Super AMOLED display, but other wise packs similar features of the Gear 2.
The GALAXY S5 is priced at RM 2,399, while the Gear 2 is priced at RM 899 and the Gear Fit at RM 599.
