Is Black Myth: Wukong Coming To Xbox? Phil Spencer Knows, But Won't Say
Mega hit action-adventure game Black Myth: Wukong is one of the biggest games of 2024. However, it’s only been available on PlayStation 5 and PC since launching earlier this year. Now, Microsoft CEO of gaming Phil Spencer says he knows whether or not Black Myth: Wukong is coming to Xbox...he just won’t tell us.
First announced four years ago with a flashy and impressive gameplay trailer, Black Myth: Wukong finally arrived on PC and PS5 on August 20. The game, which is heavily inspired by the famous Ming-dynasty-era Chinese novel Journey to the West, quickly became one of the most played games on Steam, beating out juggernauts like Counter-Strike, Dota 2, and PUBG. Meanwhile, it also sold well on PS5 and was one of the most downloaded games on Sony’s console according to publicly available data. Through all of this (and the controversies that flared up around the game), Xbox players have been waiting patiently. And they’ll have to keep waiting, but maybe not for too much longer.
In a new report from Game File, former Kotaku editor-in-chief Stephen Totilo spoke to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, and the topic of Black Myth: Wukong came up as it is one of the biggest games of 2024, but isn’t on Xbox.
Here’s the exchange from Game File between Totilo and Spencer:
Game File: Do you know if your getting Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox at some point?
Spencer: I do know.
Game File: Are you getting it?
Spencer: [Laughing]: I can’t announce that.
So... my take from that is yeah, Black Myth: Wukong is coming to Xbox. The question is: when and how will its Xbox port be announced? My best guess based on Spencer’s reaction and a recent ESRB leak is that Black Myth: Wukong gets announced for Xbox at this year’s Game Awards. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s released that night, too. Place your bets now.
