BioNTech to ship Omicron vaccines from October

STORY: BionNTech says it should begin deliveries of vaccines for the Omicron variant of COVID as soon as October.

The German bio-tech firm has two different products currently being tested or assessed by regulators.

Shipment of the new shots could be a timely boost.

BioNTech has seen waning demand for its standard COVID vaccine.

On Monday (August 8) it said revenue and profit both dropped 40% in the second quarter as a result.

However, booster campaigns using upgraded shots are now expected to significantly revive demand.

BioNTech says both its updated products should be ready in time.

Europe’s energy crisis could be the firm’s next headache.

BioNTech says it’s unsure what a severe shortage of natural gas could mean for its business.

It needs the gas to produce vaccines, and is putting in place mitigation measures in case of crisis.

BioNTech shares were down around 6% by Monday afternoon.
