Well, this is most excellent.

Alex Winter, who famously played Bill in the 1989 teen classic Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and its 1991 sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, gave fans a peek behind the scenes of the original on Wednesday, after he found an old hard drive.

They show Winter and his co-star, Keanu Reeves, working on scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut of the film about two failing high school students who travel through time to find historical figures, such as Abraham Lincoln and Socrates, for their school presentation.

Winter described an “opening dance number,” which he specified was “yes an actual, choreographed rock jam,” and an opening scene in which the aspiring rockers encounter jocks at the school bus stop.

One notable shot Winter posted captures the guys playing air guitar, as they were known to do, with Reeves in the middle of a full-out leap.

Another featured late comedian George Carlin, who played Rufus, Bill and Ted’s guide in their time-hopping journey. Carlin died in 2008, at age 71.

Winter shared the photos ahead of the much-anticipated release of Bill and Ted Face the Music, the third flick in the franchise expected this summer.

After seeing the new images, fans suggested Winter and others create a full-fledged documentary, or at least an official oral history, about the making of Bill and Ted.

And there could be a lot more scoop on the way for the movie’s devotees. Both Winter and Reeves will be back for the next sequel.
