When it comes to 2020 hair trends, there was only one person we wanted to talk to: Andrew Fitzsimons.

With a client list that includes the entire Kardashian/Jenner family. We're talking Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie and Kendall, he's the man that inevitably sets the trends we'll all be copying for months to come.

Andrew started out in hairdressing when he was just 13 years old, dropping out of school in Ireland and heading to Paris three years later to achieve his dreams of working in fashion.

After doing his time at fashion weeks, Andrew began working with Mariah Carey - "One of the nicest people I have ever worked with in my whole entire life" - and quickly realised the pressure of working with celebrities.

"You’re only as good as your last hair style," he told us when we caught up with him at the launch of his new line with Primark. "If a hair is out of place, it can end your career. I realised I had to focus and be really detail orientated, but still quick."

After working with Kendall in New York, Andrew moved to LA and soon began working with our favourite family (besides the Royals, obviously).

"They’re kind of like the Spice Girls, there's the glam one, the natural one, I could never pick a favourite but I think my aesthetic is most like Khloe's because we both love glamour."

Despite working with one of the world's most affluent families, Andrew was inspired to create his new line with Primark - with prices starting from £2 - after struggling to afford products for his kit when he started out in hairdressing.

"As a working hairstylist, the price tag of a product means nothing to me, any hairstylists, any makeup artists will tell you that. The price tag is irrelevant, the product just has to work.

"I had no money when I started out in this industry. I moved from Dublin to Paris, to New York, and now to LA, but I wasn't earning no money, so I had to be creative when it came to the products I used.

"Then I realised, the more creative I was, the better the products were. So, for me, my intention with my line with Primark was the concept of luxury inspired haircare that everybody can afford."

So what looks should we all be creating now we're armed with an entire new tool kit? We asked Andrew what hairstyles he predicts are going to be big for 2020, so you can get a head start on mastering them.

Strong and healthy

"A large trend I definitely see happening is people really focusing on the health of their hair," Andrew told us. "I think with hair and makeup, people are going back to basics with having a really beautiful foundation."

"Paying attention to repairing your hair and treating it, will be a huge focus for 2020 because everyone got really excited with tutorials, heat-styling and colouring in different ways and it really takes its toll," he warned.

Short and sleek

It might be time to ditch the extensions as mid-length styles are back claims Andrew (woohoo).

"I think sleek hair is making a huge comeback," he said. "Not necessarily the super-long Cher vibe, but I’m seeing a lot of shorter references to sleek hair. Really short bobs, super '90s ones especially."

Cropped and textured

If you're feeling bold, 2020 is the perfect time to go for the big chop according to Andrew. "We're starting to see shorter hair come back, with lots of texture, like when Kate Moss cut her hair in the '90s and everyone replicated her messy crop."

"It's really exciting because I love short hair on women and in 2020 you have different lengths to play with. Either the short and sleek bob, or the more textured crop."
