SINGAPORE — Cinema halls with more than 300 seats each will be allowed to have up to three zones of up to 50 patrons per hall, the multi-ministry taskforce (MTF) for COVID-19 said on Wednesday (23 September).

The change is among a slew of COVID-19 safe management measures (SMM) for the resumption of activities unveiled by the MTF.

Other cinema halls will be allowed to raise their capacity to 50 per cent of original operating capacity, or maintain the current limit of up to 50 patrons per hall.

The cinema halls will be subject to the relevant SMM.

Speaking at a virtual press briefing, the Ministry of Health’s director of medical services Kenneth Mak told reporters, “The low numbers (of cases) that we see and we have seen over the last fortnight give us greater confidence that we can extend the pilot (schemes and) allow events and social activities to resume safely in our community.”
