Some firms – like Coca-Cola and Pepsi – are also using more virgin plastic despite pledges to cut back

Nestle said it had reduced the amount of virgin plastic it uses by 8% since 2018

The company said a lack of government recycling infrastructure globally hampered efforts

Mars said it is making progress and is investing in redesigning packaging components

Pepsi and Coca-Cola did not respond to requests for comment
