'Bichon Havanese' owners struggle amid shortages
STORY: A shortage of essentials in Cuba is making
it harder to care for the island's national dog
The 'Bichon Havanese' breed
requires a lot of work
Products like shampoo and conditioner
are required to keep their hair wavy and silky
Both are in short supply on the island

“I bathe this animal every four days. If I am late by one day, his hair will tangle. He cannot have any fleas or ticks, nothing can fall in his fur. I have to give it anti-flea medication every month. To keep a Havanese is a great sacrifice, not only in Cuba but in the world.”
