The Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz Podcast Leads Listeners Through the Entire Book

It’s currently sitting at the number two spot on iTunes.

If one of your New Year's resolutions is to dig into the Word but you're overwhelmed with where or how to start, let Fr. Mike Schmitz be your guide. His new The Bible in a Year podcast is designed to take listeners through the Bible in 365 episodes, so far each one ranging in length from 16 to 24 minutes. At the time this story was published, the newly launched podcast had already amassed more than 9,000 5-star reviews and had only just recently slipped to the second spot in the Top Show rankings on iTunes after a nearly three week run at number one. So how is a bible-reading podcast managing to hold up against the binge-able true-crime series and political commentaries? Maybe it speaks to just what so many of us need right now.

If you've routinely set the intention of beginning a bible reading plan only to fall off the bandwagon just five chapters into Genesis, The Bible in a Year might be the difference between yet another failed attempt. The series doesn't just take the Bible from cover to cover, it follows a specialized reading plan designed by Biblical scholar Jeff Cavins to guide the listener through the 14 narrative stories while weaving in what the plan refers to as supplemental books. It's a strategy that's intended to give greater context to primary themes, people, and places in the Bible's history of salvation. What listeners might find though is that Fr. Mike Schmitz's reflections at the end of each day's reading really pull the whole story home.

Reviewers praise it for being a clear pathway through the Bible, particularly useful for those who have previously struggled to stay on track with otherreading plans and apps. As for me, Fr. Mike's conversational style and down-to-earth insights are assuredly the reason why I've joined the journey and have every intention of seeing it through. Not only has it quickly become a part of my day, it has given perspective to so many minor irritants and frustrations that would have previously sent me reeling. In an unexpected (but graciously accepted) feat, The Bible in a Year podcast is somehow managing to cover both my Bible-reading and stress-less resolutions in one fell swoop—it's safe to say I don't see myself unsubscribing to this one anytime soon.
