Betting NFL: There's one player to target for Chiefs at Chargers

The NFL prime-time games have ended up being stellar. However, this is perhaps the most anticipated prime-time matchup of the season. We get a Chiefs team that has bounced back in a big way against a Chargers offense that is oh-so threatening to any defense. I like the team total OVER for L.A. so I’ll be looking to one player to contribute as a weapon for Justin Herbert.

Prop: Jared Cook OVER 27.5 receiving yards (-110)

The Chargers tight end had a quad injury earlier in the week but is a go for tonight. Cook is averaging five targets per game with 25 receiving yards or more in three of his last four games played and in 11 of 13 games.

Defensively, the Chiefs look to be improved but are still 26th against the pass. Against nine different TEs this season, Kansas City's defense has allowed 27 receiving yards or more to seven.

Prop: Jared Cook anytime touchdown (+300)

Cook has scored in two of his last three games. Among the nine TEs faced, the Chiefs allowed a score against six, including one to both Giants TEs Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph. You could argue that the Chiefs haven’t allowed a TE to score since Week 8, but consider the details. Since playing the Giants, the Chiefs have faced the Packers (Rob Tonyan on IR), the Raiders (in the midst of off-field distractions), the Cowboys (slew of offensive player injuries), the Broncos and Raiders (without Waller).

The vulnerability against this position is still there. Among the three TEs for the Chargers, Cook leads in red zone targets with 11 on the season. If Cook ends up leaving the game due to injury, look to TE2 Donald Parham Jr. on the live line. Parham has three receiving touchdowns, with the last coming in early November. If I like the Chargers to put up points, then there’s a solid chance at some plus-money from multiple scoring opportunities. It’s the plus-money options I like to risk on.
