A big game demands a big TV, like these models from Hisense, Onn and Samsung. (Photos: Hisense, Onn, Samsung)
Super Bowl 2023 airs on Sunday, Feb. 12. The matchup: The Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles. The setting: Your living room. The challenge: Finding the best Super Bowl TV deal (and making sure to get it in time) so you can enjoy the game in style.
Let's be clear: When it comes to sports, the bigger the screen, the better. Last week I watched the Chiefs squeak past the Cincinnati Bengals on a 75-inch Hisense TV, and it was just dazzling to see at that size. And if you think you can't afford something quite that big, you might be surprised by some of the deals available right now.
For this roundup I looked only at 65-inch and larger models, because if we're doing this, we're doing this, right? Every TV below is notable for having a substantial discount (as of this writing; prices are subject to change), solid ratings or a combination of the two. I'll start with the least-expensive ones first.
This combines two of my favorite things: The Roku TV interface (which is the easiest to learn and use) and a rock-bottom price. The 65R6E4 is a fairly no-frills model, but it can stream anything and everything and offers a 120Hz refresh rate, which is good for sports.
Vizio packs a lot of value into this TV, which runs a custom OS but has ample room (courtesy of three HDMI 2.1 ports) for your streamer of choice. Highlights include Dolby Vision, Game Mode, a voice remote and support for Bluetooth headphones (just in case you want to watch the big game without disturbing others).
A 75-inch TV for under $600? I'm listening. Onn is Walmart's house brand, and while it's fairly basic on the feature front, it includes the highly desirable Roku interface and comes with a 2-year warranty. And did I mention it's 75 inches? This is your chance to go big -- really big -- on the cheap.
This isn't the lowest price on record for Amazon's 75-inch Omni Series, but it's close. And this TV offers some impressive features, not the least of which is Amazon's hands-free Alexa voice control. I especially like the support for big-screen Zoom meetings: Just plug in a webcam and run the Zoom app, one of many apps supported by Amazon's Fire TV operating system. (This is a particularly great option for casual gamers.)
The U8H is Hisense's premium model, with features rivaling brands that cost considerably more. Among them: mini-LED backlighting, Quantum Dot color, local dimming and Dolby Atmos audio. You also get hands-free voice controls (for use with the Google TV operating system) and a 2-year warranty. This price ties the lowest on record for this top-rated TV.
Ready to go big? Like, really, really big? I have this very TV in my living room, and I'm spoiled forever. The 85-inch U7H gets you within spitting distance of a proper home theater, and you haven't lived until you've watched the Super Bowl in a theater. Amazing picture, great features, 2-year warranty...if your budget allows and you've got the space, just buy this thing already.
Got the urge to splurge? Consider an OLED TV; this top-rated Samsung is currently priced as low as it's ever been. Much as I feel the other TVs offer great bang for the buck, there's nothing that quite compares to OLED: colors just pop. And don't forget arguably the coolest thing of all: Samsung's SolarCell remote, which has a solar panel (!) on the back for easy, unattended charging.

It’s the season of Ramadan bazaars and while the ongoing one at Geylang Serai is often known as the big or main one in the city, there are a couple of smaller-scale bazaars happening in different neighborhoods. At Ramadan bazaars, visitors can usually expect plenty of food stalls that sell halal food, to cater to…

An ally of President Vladimir Putin has warned that Russia has the weapons to destroy any enemy, including the United States, if its own existence is threatened, accusing Washington of underestimating Moscow's nuclear might. The comments from Nikolai Patrushev, the influential secretary of Russia's Security Council, are the latest from a senior Russian official to raise the spectre of a nuclear showdown between the world's two largest nuclear powers, something Moscow says it wants to avoid.
