The Best Beauty Moments at the 2024 Oscars
All the can't miss look and how to get them, from Michelle Yeoh's lip color to Lupita Nyong'o's body shimmer, and more
The 2024 Oscars didn't disappoint from the moment stars started stepping foot on the red carpet to Oppenheimer's Best Picture win to close out the show.
The ceremony not only capped off a long and exhilarating run for the actors, but their glam squads too.
For months, makeup artists, hairstylists, manicurists and more have been turning out one eye-catching beauty look after another for their clients.
And of course, for Hollywood's biggest night, they pulled out all the stops. And we got the scoop on the looks. Read all about America Ferrera's pink nails, Matthew McConaughey's amazing waves, and the secrets of more stars' getting ready routines revealed here.
Danielle Brooks
Danielle Brooks and her glam squad used the black dress as a “neutral canvas” to make a memorable statement. Makeup artist Rebekah Aladdin adds that the embellished Dolce & Gabbana design gave her “the opportunity to add an edgy flair to her classic look.” Enter: a dramatic cat eye. The pro reached for Benefit’s Bad Gal Bang 24-HR Eye Pencil and They’re Real Xtreme Precision Liner “to create a fierce wing!”
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh was all smiles in a custom Balenciaga creation, which gave us even more incentive to gaze at her gorgeous lipstick. Subtle shades of pink were all over the ceremony, but the presenter’s lip color stood out for its high-shine effect. “We wanted her to look chic and elegant and I really wanted Michelle to glow and to look effortlessly beautiful throughout the night,” says makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani, who applied Dior Contour in #100 Nude Look followed by Rouge Dior Lipstick in #100 Nude Look Velvet and topped it off with Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in #001 Pink.
America Ferrera
America Ferrera was pretty in pink on the red carpet. But not just any pink. Versace pink. Barbie pink. The Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee paired her chainmail dress with a — what else? — light pink manicure to match. Manicurist Diem Truong used KISS’s Salon X-tend LED Soft Gel System and the shade Gloria to get her look.
“Since the accessories, jewelry, shoes and outfit were all pink, America and her stylist really wanted to keep the manicure very neutral to allow the metallic pink Versace gown shine!” Truong says.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo was positively radiant on the red carpet. Yes the actor had a lot to be grateful for — he was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Rustin — but he’s naturally got some of the best skin in the biz. Groomer Jamie Richmond used the Solawave 4-in-1 Radiant Renewal Skincare Wand which features a handful of treatments to smooth fine lines, brighten and more.
“Not only does it help Colman’s skincare effectiveness, it’s also a 12 minute mini spa session where he can just relax and center himself,” Richmond explained.
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong’o celebrated 10 years since her first visit to the Oscars at last night’s ceremony. In 2014, the actress won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 12 Years a Slave while wearing a pale blue Prada gown. For this occasion, she chose a custom Armani Privé design and complemented the sparkling look with a little body shimmer.
Makeup artist Nick Barose, who created Nyong’o’s makeup look a decade ago, shared on Instagram that “for extra glow” on her body, he applied a combination of Skwálwen Botanicals Kalkáy Wild Rose & Yarrow Salve Baume and Chanel Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid in Sunkissed, then he dusted a bit of glitter “on high points for extra drama.”
“From Princess moment to Queen moment,” he wrote.
Zendaya
“On Hollywood’s biggest night it was only right to go with classic glamor,” hairstylist Tai Simon said of her client Zendaya’s waves with a “flair.” With the presenter’s gown — an antique rose silk Giorgio Armani Privé confection — being so “sublime,” Simon added, “it was best to keep her hair demure yet whimsically free flowing.”
All the heat-styling would require proper protection. Simon emulsified two heat protectants — Joico Dream Blowout and Joico Defy Damage Protective Shield — in her hands and applied them on the star’s damp hair “to create a protective barrier” before styling her hair with T3 Hot Rollers.
Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey and his iconic hair made their first red carpet appearance of 2024 at last night’s ceremony and all we’re feeling alright.
“[He] has perfected the cool, laid back American movie star image,” says hairstylist Marcus Francis, who created the presenter’s look, adding, “He’s always embraced his iconic wavy hair … It’s given the OK to all men aspiring to embrace their texture with style and a little polish.”
Francis’ MVP product for the evening: American Crew Cream Pomade, which tames hair while amplifying texture.
