Berlin opera house performs in car park

Welcome to car park opera

Berlin's 'Deutsche Oper'

have found a new place to perform

ahead of their upcoming show

Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold

(SOUNDBITE) (German) DEUTSCHE OPER DIRECTOR, DIETMAR SCHWARZ, SAYING:

"We remembered that we have our very own open-air possibility which offers the acoustic conditions for staging a performance with singers and an orchestra. So we said let's see if we get the permission and we now we have one for a first showing with 170 visitors and then 200 people for the last two performances. Necessity is the mother of invention and once this takes off we are happy."

The two and a half-hour show

has been shortened to 90 minutes

Seating will be spread out

and divided by white sheets
