Bengals QB Joe Burrow left off injury list, set to return to field as camp begins
The Cincinnati Bengals made a few last-minute roster adjustments Sunday before the start of training camp, and one notable name was not among them.
Joe Burrow, the team’s No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft, appears to be on track to participate when camp opens this week, per NFL Network. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback started the first 10 games of the 2020 season before suffering a significant knee injury against the Washington Football Team on Nov. 22.
Eight months later, it was unclear whether Burrow would open training camp on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to rehab the injured knee. Instead, Burrow’s name was conspicuously absent from the team’s roster moves.

It’s obviously a very positive development for the Bengals. Burrow had an unbelievable senior season at LSU, leading the Tigers to a national title. Those efforts vaulted him up draft boards and the Bengals snagged him at No. 1 overall.
With a lack of talent around him, especially on the offensive line, Burrow had some struggles as a rookie. For the most part, though, Burrow impressed with his poise and leadership on the field for a team that didn’t win many games.
Including the Washington game where the injury occurred, the Bengals went 2-7-1 with Burrow as the starting quarterback. Along the way, Burrow threw for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 65.3% of his throws.
The Bengals, who finished the year 4-11-1, brought in some help for Burrow in the offseason. In the draft, they selected wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in the first round and offensive lineman Jackson Carman in the second round. Chase was Burrow’s teammate at LSU, and the two combined for eye-popping numbers in 2019.
In addition to Carman, tackle Riley Reiff was signed in free agency in an effort to beef up the protection for Burrow. That offensive line will be subject to much scrutiny in 2021.
