Protesters in Minsk, Belarus, joined each other in song on August 20 as nationwide protests continued following a contested presidential election result.
Anti-government protests ignited after it was announced on August 9 that President Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected for a sixth term. He has been in power since 1994.
The main opposition candidate, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, and supporters alleged the vote was rigged.
Local media said protesters were calling for the release of political prisoners, the removal of Lukashenko, and a new election process. Credit: Vladislav Davidzon via Storyful
