“Beef” secured eight victories at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.
Awards: “Beef,” directed by Lee Sung-jin, received 13 nominations at the 2024 Emmy Awards. Of those nods, lead actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun won outstanding lead actress and actor in a limited or anthology series or movie, marking the first time the awards simultaneously went to Asian American actors. Wong's accolade also makes her the first woman of Asian descent to win a lead acting award at the Emmys.

“A lot of suicidal ideation in this show was based on stuff that I and some of the folks up here have struggled with over the years. So I’m really grateful and humbled by everyone who watched the show and reached out about their own personal struggles… I feel like we live in a world designed to kind of keep us separate. Even here, some of us go home with trophies, other people don’t. I think for some of us when we live in a world like this, you begin to think there’s no way anyone can ever understand you or like you, or much less no potential at being loved. So the greatest joy of working on ‘Beef’ has truly been working with the folks up here who loved so unconditionally.”
The big picture:“Beef” is a major contender this awards season, having won four trophies at the 29th Critics Choice Awards on Sunday and winning best limited series at the recent Golden Globes, where Yeun and Wong also made history by winning best male and best female actor, respectively.
Other winners: The Disney miniseries “Ms. Marvel,” created by Bisha K. Ali and starring Iman Vellani, won “Outstanding Motion Design,” while reality show “Queer Eye” won “Outstanding Structured Reality Program” at the Emmys.
