KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Scooter company Beam today said none of its electric vehicles were responsible for a fire that broke outside the Suria KLCC shopping centre here yesterday.

The company said it was made aware that a few of its electric scooters were damaged in the incident.

“We are relieved that no passers-by were harmed in the incident, and we would like to update that upon investigation by the relevant authorities, our vehicles were not the cause of the fire,” it said in a statement.

Beam said its electric scooters use aircraft-grade aluminium, the highest grade of body hardware to ensure durability, adding that the batteries within the vehicles follow international safety certification.

A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre said in a statement yesterday that four electric scooters and nine out of 13 motorcycles were destroyed in the fire that was brought under control at about 4pm.

The same spokesman added that the remaining four motorcycles were partially damaged.
