STORY: Large swells engulfed some of Sydney’s most iconic beaches, with social media footage showing waves covering the boardwalk at Bondi Beach overnight.
A young local resident described the waves to Reuters, saying they were "really, really big".
The Bureau of Meteorology said that the weather was caused by a low-pressure system that formed off the west coast of New Zealand that is slowly moving north.
The low-pressure system brought blizzard-like conditions to Tasmania over the weekend, leading to the rescue of eight hikers from kunanyi/Mount Wellington on Saturday, whilst thousands are still left without power.
Conditions are expected to ease over the coming days.
