BB Gandanghari files petition for gender transition

22 Aug - BB Gandanghari was revealed to have recently filed a petition to change her gender and name, and to legalise her gender transition.

The star, formerly known as Rustom Padilla, shared the news on Instagram recently with a photo of her application form that was filed at the Superior Court of California.

Gandanghari wrote, "Change is coming... Big time!"

The form stated that "the petitioner [Rustom Carino Padilla] requests that the court decree that petitoner's name is changed to [Binibini Gandanghari]" and that his 'gender is changed from male to female".

Gandanghari previously posted a photo at the Central Justice Centre, and wrote, "And then... it's really just a matter of time now."

Gandanghari, who is the older sibling of actor Robin Padilla and younger sibling of Royette and Rommel Padilla, came out back in 2006 while doing "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition". In 2009, she admitted to being a transgender and changed her name from Rustom Padilla to BB Gandanghari, which also means, "Miss Beautiful King" in English.
