For those who know about Slam Dunk, it may have been the reason why you started playing basketball. Slam Dunk was serialised from 1990 to 1996, and later became one of the best-selling manga in Japan. Although it is not relatively well-known worldwide, it is popular in countries like Taiwan.
Slam Dunk is so popular that it recently made it to No. 3 in a ranking of the most popular manga series in Japan.
The manga has since been adapted into an anime series that ran from 1993 to 1996, and four anime movies in both 1994 and 1995. After more than two decades, Inoue’s sudden announcement about a new instalment has caught everyone, particularly the fans, by surprise.

Twitter user @Kenta_7land was extremely excited about it: “Yesss!! It’s here!!” Other fans shared similar views: “I’m too happy.” “This is nostalgic.” “I’m looking forward to it.” Some were so thrilled they cried tears of joy.
However, details for the new Slam Dunk movie have not been made known, not even its official title! Whether it is a sequel or a reboot, Slam Dunk fans will surely not be disappointed as Toei Animation, the same studio that produced the Slam Dunk anime series, will be working on the movie. Moreover, this will also be Slam Dunk’s first feature film — the previous four being short films.
