BINTANGOR, Sept 15 — The Education Ministry has allocated RM128 million to repair dilapidated schools in the country this year, Works Minister Baru Bian said today.

He said RM100 million alone has been allocated for Sarawak to fix 32 schools, compared to RM10 million to repair three schools in Sabah, and another RM18 million for fixing eight schools in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Apart from the RM100 million allocation from the Education Ministry, the federal Cabinet has also approved an allocation of RM1 billion for repairs of schools in Sarawak,” Baru said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the redevelopment of SK Bandar Bintangor here.

He said the repair works on dilapidated schools in Sarawak involves the Ministry of Works, and both federal and state Public Works Department.

Baru hoped that the redevelopment of dilapidated schools would be efficient and transparent and completed according to schedules.

He said as to-date, 30 out of 32 dilapidated schools in Sarawak are in the process of being fixed while the remaining two are at the re-designing stage.

He said tenders to fix these two schools are expected to be called next month.

On the RM1 billion for Sarawak, Baru said it will be utilised for repairs to be carried out until next year.

He said RM350 million of the total has been allocated for repairs to be carried out on 37 schools this year.
