Barcelona have finally submitted an official offer for Leeds United attacker Raphinha after months of speculation, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It had been reported that Barcelona might struggle to be able to afford Leeds’ asking price due to the financial pressure on the club with Chelsea and Arsenal also interested in the Brazilian.
Chelsea have already reportedly had a bid accepted for Raphinha but the winger’s preference to join Barcelona has already seen the Blues move on to other targets.
And now following a lot of rumours, U-turns and speculation, Romano has confirmed that Barcelona ‘have finally submitted the official bid for Raphinha’ that should see the Brazilian end up at the Camp Nou.
Romano adds that Leeds ‘are set to accept’ with the Catalan giants offering a ‘€58m fixed fee, up to €68m with add-ons’ and the transfer is now in the ‘final stages’.
And now ‘all parties waiting for Barca to be able and ready to register Raphinha, then it will be signed’.
Leeds have already signed Raphinha’s replacement with Colombia winger Luis Sinisterra joining from Feyenoord in a deal worth a reported £21.4m.
That deal, which was completed last week, took Leeds’ spending to over £90m this summer with Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Darko Gyabi and Tyler Adams all joining.
And Leeds boss Jesse Marsch already likes what he has seen of his new signing in training. He said: “I think he’s a powerful, fast explosive player that’s also intelligent, that can play football, but that can also really play intensively.
“Within 48 hours with him we had a lot of little video sessions and little conversations and you could see quickly that he’s fit well within the group.
“As much as we were looking to bring in players that have certain football qualities, we wanted to make sure that given the quality of the group and how strong they are together, how committed they are with the strong mentality that they have and what good people they are, for Victor and I and Andrea, I think the first step was evaluating the people that we wanted to bring in and making sure that we continue to have such a strong character in our team.
“I think Luis fits that really well.”
