Barbra Streisand addresses Melissa McCarthy Ozempic comment: ‘I forgot the world is reading!’

Barbra Streisand is clearing the air between Melissa McCarthy and herself.

The Yentl star commented a fairly personal message on the Bridesmaids actress’ Instagram post, which prompted Streisand to share a follow-up note to McCarthy.

The Spy actress had posted a photo of herself with Hairspray and Bedtime Stories director Adam Shankman at the Center Theatre Group gala in Los Angeles on Monday. In a now-deleted comment, Streisand wrote, "Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?,” referring to the diabetes treatment medication that many Hollywood stars are using to lose weight.

After screenshots of Streisand’s comment made the rounds online, the Funny Girl star posted a sweet note addressing the situation, clarifying that she didn’t intend to publicly rain on McCarthy’s parade. “OMG — I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!” she wrote. “Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

A representative for McCarthy did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment. However, E! Reported that McCarthy told paparazzi Tuesday, "I think Barbra is a treasure… and I love her."

The duo recorded Irving Berlin’s "Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun together on Streisand’s 2016 album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. The album also featured duets with actors like Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Jamie Foxx, Hugh Jackman, and Chris Pine.

Streisand published her 970-page memoir My Name is Barbra in November. McCarthy will next appear in Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tart comedy Unfrosted, which hits Netflix May 3.
