Bangladesh's laborers struggle under extreme heat

STORY: The heatwave has swept across large swathes of India and Pakistan this week, following India's hottest March on record, as Bangladesh's meteorological agency recorded temperatures soaring past 104 Fahrenheit in northern and southwestern regions for several days.

The unprecedented heat puts millions of blue-collar workers, including construction and farm laborers and those working on factory shop floors, at great risk, experts said.

Health experts in Bangladesh warned labourers from working outside without covering their heads and urged the government to increase access to drinking water, as the Muslim-majority nation enters its final week of the fasting month of Ramadan.
