Bakhmut a Ghost Town as Battle Continues to Claim Frontline City

Buildings and streets were seen hollowed out and destroyed in central Bakhmut, in footage posted February 26, as the status of the city remained unclear and the Ukrainian Armed Forces countered claims made by Russian forces.

An adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Igor Kimakovsky, told Russian media that fighting in Bakhmut had reached the city center.

In their latest update on February 27, the Ukrainian Armed Forces disputed this claim, saying that Russian forces continued to attack positions of their troops in and around Bakhmut. Russia’s offensives in the northern Donetsk Oblast had been unsuccessful, they said.
