'Bad Boys For Life' cleans up at the box office, with a fourth movie in the pipeline
You wait 17 years for a Bad Boys sequel, and now we might be getting two in quick succession.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Chris Bremner, who was among those who penned Bad Boys For Life, has already been hired to pen a fourth.
It comes after an impressive reception for the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's best-buddy cop team.
Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett pummelled the competition with a sterling $68.1 million haul in the US over the weekend.
Coupled with $38 million internationally so far, it's made $106.7 million in all, passing its production budget of $90 million.
That makes it the second biggest opening over the Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend, just tucked in behind American Sniper from 2015.
Assistance came in the form of some very respectable reviews, with many calling Belgian directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah's movie the best of the franchise so far.
And in other long-awaited sequel news, Bremner is also working on the script to National Treasure 3, which would see Nicolas Cage returning to the fold as swashbuckling antiques hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates.
Last time we saw Gates, it was in National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007.
