Baby, 6 Months, Killed in Chicago Hit-and-Run While Being Transported to Hospital
Chicago Police told local news that the child's parents had been en route to the hospital to seek care for their child when the crash happened

A 6-month-old child that was being transported to the hospital was killed in a hit-and-run in Chicago on Friday, according to news sources.
The Chicago Police Department told ABC7 Chicago, NBC Chicago and WGN9 that around 9:45 p.m. a Chevy SUV ran a red light and hit a Ford SUV in an intersection on the 6300 block of South Cottage Grove, located on Chicago’s east side.
Surveillance video from the scene obtained by ABC7 Chicago appeared to show a white Ford SUV proceeding through the intersection with a green light as a black Chevy SUV sped through. The black Chevy SUV clipped the front of the white Ford SUV, causing it to careen right and almost hit a pillar on the edge of the roadway.
In the Ford SUV were two parents, who had been en route to the hospital in order to seek care for their 6-month-old daughter, who had been having breathing problems, according to the outlets.

A man and woman, who had been in the Chevy SUV, did not render aid to them and got out of the car and fled the scene before police could arrive, according to WGN9. The Chicago Police Department noted to the outlet that they did not have anyone in custody related to the incident.
"The most disturbing part is when people don't render aid and they take off," community activist Andrew Holmes told ABC 7 Chicago. "Sometimes that shows, what are you hiding? What are you afraid of? We don't know if the car was stolen or not.”

The male and female passengers of the Ford SUV were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while their 6-month-old child was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she died, according to WGN9 and NBC Chicago.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 6-month-old child to NBC Chicago as Josette Williams, and said that an autopsy would be performed on Saturday. It was unclear if the child died as a result of the crash.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Other cars were damaged in the incident, according to ABC7 Chicago, but no other injuries were reported.
Tavarus Forest, whose car was damaged in the crash told CBS News: "I mean, the impact hit it so hard, my reaction, I tried to hurry up and swerve over the black car still ended up side-swipping my car.”
