Aznil Nawawi opens Kedai Percuma Pak Nil for flood victims in Banting

6 Jan - Wanting to be of assistance in any way he could, TV personality Datuk Aznil Nawawi recently decided to establish a free store that he called Kedai Percuma Pak Nil in Bukit Changgang, Banting.

The popular host, affectionally known as Pak Nil, shared that the idea started after he carried out work to gather volunteers to help residents of the said area to rebuild new lives following the previous devastating floods.

"Before going there, I was actually contacted by one of my followers on Instagram who shared his story about the destruction of the district due to the floods. In fact, when I went to the area, I saw that many residents housed at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) had nothing but the clothes on their bodies," he said.

Pak Nil stated that he began helping by using the money donated by his social media followers to prepare nearly a thousand packs of warm meals to the victims.

"After the flood receded, they started moving back to their homes. At that time, they had to collect items and repair their houses. Even their basic necessities were gone. From there, I thought why not create this free shop," he said.

Aznil stated that he began making calls to companies that have worked with him in the past.

"They generously delivered necessities like cooking oil, eggs, mineral water, blankets, pillows, and many more. I also thought about accumulating these items through donations, and put them all inside a shop," he said.

At the same time, Pak Nil stated that he would welcome anybody to donate to the cause or even send necessities to the said shop where the residents can have access to them.
