GOMBAK, Nov 6 — Incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Azmin Ali today urged residents of Gombak to reach out to 10 other people in different constituencies to vote for his coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th general election (GE15).

The welfare of the country and its residents did not fall only on him, but it was a shared responsibility, he told residents of the flats in Taman Keramat Permai this morning.

“But don’t forget we have family in other states and constituencies. I request your help to contact them.

“If every person here can contact 10 others, that is more than enough.

“Because this responsibility does not fall on me alone, this is our responsibility together. It is our country and our future,” he said.

He also attributed Malaysia’s success in controlling the spread of Covid-19 and the opening of the country’s borders to the leadership of former prime minister and PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the PN government.

He compared the opening of Malaysia’s borders earlier this year in April to more developed countries that have yet to open borders, such as China, and those that have opened their borders only recently, such as Japan.

He also attributed the controlled spread of Covid-19 to “Muhyiddin’s leadership and the PN government at the time (when the Covid-19 pandemic began) in taking brave and responsible measures, firstly in implementing a vaccination programme to give vaccines to all Malaysians.”

“We did not just give one or two or three vaccinations, isn’t that right?” he asked the crowd.

“Yes,” the crowd replied.

“Did everyone get their vaccinations?” he asked. When they replied yes, he asked how many they had received thus far.

“Three,” the crowd answered.

“Would you like a fourth? It’s free,” he quipped.

The crowd indicated their refusal, to which he jokingly lamented: “This is the first time people don’t want something for free.”

Azmin will be contesting the Gombak parliamentary seat against four challengers: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, Gerakan Tanah Air’s (GTA) Aziz Jamaludin Mohd Tahir and independent candidate Ir Zulkifli Ahmad.
