Awie to take action for illegal use of his photo

21 Jan – Awie recently announced that he is taking action against parties involved in the illegal use of his image to promote a healthy beverage product.

The rock icon, whose face was superimposed onto a photo of another person holding a well-known brand, revealed that he found out that the photo has been spreading on social media by users whom he believed to be agents of the beverage company.

"They uploaded the photo and released statements that I have supposedly been using the product. Some even claimed that I was in support of or involved in the business," he said.

Awie vehemently denied any involvement with the company, adding that he had never agreed to be a spokesperson for them.

"I had never tried the company's products or even buy them. I never expressed my support," he stressed.

The singer's legal rep also revealed that they have already sent a letter of claim to the company on 6 January, but received a disappointing response from the company which stated that neither them nor their agents have exploited Awie's photo.

"I had given them seven days to take down the photo, but since it is still out there, I have ordered my legal representatives to take action against the company," he said, adding that he didn't want the public to be duped into buying a product because of him.
