AVS probing incident of youths playing foosball with live frogs
SINGAPORE — The Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) is investigating a group of youths who allegedly played foosball using live frogs, after footage of the incident was shared widely over the weekend.
In response to media queries on Monday (28 December), the AVS expressed its concern over the incident, adding that it takes all feedback received from the public on animal cruelty seriously, and will look into the cases reported.
“As with all investigations, all forms of evidence are critical to the process, and photographic and/or video-graphic evidence provided by the public will help,” said the AVS.
Three different clips of the incident show at least four people present during the incident.
One of the clips shows a girl and a boy emptying a tank of over a dozen live frogs into a brown cardboard box. The box was later flung at another individual who dodged the item, which fell to the ground. Several frogs were seen lying still on the floor.
Another clip shows several people playing at a foosball table and attempting to hit a frog with a ball. It is captioned with “Merry Christmas” and “thanks for the 100 frogs”.
Members of the public can alert the AVS of any suspected cases of animal abuse via the online feedback form on its website or at 1800-476-1600. Information shared with the AVS will be kept strictly confidential.
