Authorities Assess 'Unstable' Bear Creek Path as Levels Begin to Recede

Police in Merced County used a drone to survey Bear Creek on January 12 as flood warnings persisted in southern California following heavy rainfall.

A flood warning was in effect for south central California until 9 am on Friday, the National Weather Service said. As of early Thursday morning, residents that had been under mandatory evacuation orders were permitted to return to their homes, and Bear Creek levels had receded after rising well above flood stage earlier in the week, the Merced Sun-Star reported.

This drone video was posted to Facebook by the Merced Police Department on Thursday.

“Please stay off Bear Creek Bike Path,” the department wrote on Facebook. “The path is unstable. Don’t be a victim!”
