Australian police find cocaine worth $14 mln near diver
STORY: Over 100 pounds of suspected cocaine was found near the body of a diver along a riverbank in Australia on Monday.
Police say that amount could fetch around $14 million U.S. dollars.
The man was found lying unconscious near the Hunter River at Newcastle, a city just north of Sydney.
Despite paramedics treating the man, he died at the scene.
New South Wales police Detective Superintendent Robert Critchlow spoke after a probe was launched on Tuesday:
"We are trying to identify whether the two incidents are linked. They may well be but we are open-minded as to the options in front of us."
He said that investigators searched an overseas-registered ship docked near the crime scene.
Two small boats were reportedly seen near the vessel Sunday night and authorities sought public help to identify them.
