Australian Hiker Rescued After Being Stranded in Arizona Mountains in Freezing Conditions

An Australian hiker who became stranded in Arizona’s Huachuca Mountains in freezing conditions was rescued on Friday, February 24, by an aircrew from US Customs and Border Protection.

Video from the CBP’s Air and Marine Operations (AMO) shows the aircrew locating the man in the Huachuca Mountains in the Coronado National Forest. Two rescuers were hoisted down to aid the hiker.

The CBP AMO said an aircrew launched early Friday morning after deputies had been searching for an Australian national.

“This could have been a tragic fatal outcome if not for the diligence of the agents,” said Norman Montgomery, director of the CBP’s Tucson Air Branch. Credit: US Customs and Border Protection via Storyful
