Australian family rescued from flood by helicopter

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter said they were called into action after the family - an elderly couple and their son aged in his 20s - could not leave their house, located on the Fraser Coast, around 260 kilometres north of Queensland's state capital of Brisbane.

A Queensland Ambulance Service Flight Paramedic was first lowered down to the family's house before they all were lifted via a rescue basket back to the helicopter. All members of the family were uninjured.

Hundreds of millimetres of rain has fallen in the region over the past several days with major flood warnings for the Mary River, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology said. RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopters said they had been involved in more than ten flood related operations over the course of the weekend.
