14. MORRISON LEAVING NEWS CONFERENCE

STORY: Australian and New Zealand leaders and players woke up to the news on Friday (June 26) that they had won the bid to host the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The trans-Tasman neighbours will unite for the first Women's World Cup to be hosted by more than one country after FIFA Council members voted 22-13 in favour of their bid over Colombia.

FIFA's report highlighted the infrastructure and organisational advantages of the Australia/New Zealand bid which FIFA believed would make for a commercially successful tournament, compared to Columbia.

Both Football Federation Australia (FFA) and New Zealand Football (NZF) had emphasised the boost that hosting the tournament would provide for the development of the game in the Asian and Oceania Confederations.
