KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today said that participation of party members in any coalition without the party being the component party is considered violating the party’s Constitution.

Asyraf Wajdi pointed out that the matter was stipulated in Clause 20.11 of the Umno Constitution.

“Umno takes serious note of any issue of disciplinary violations or behaviour that may be considered against the rules and against the party’s Constitution.

“In relation to that, Umno Disciplinary Board is also given full and neutral powers to investigate, refine and take appropriate action on any cases of disciplinary violations that occurred,” he said in a statement this evening.

Asyraf Wajdi also added that Clause 20.9 (f) in the Umno Constitution clearly outlines the important principle for every member to “maintain the good name and dignity of the party”.

He said that party members were also forbidden from performing any form of action, behaviour, writing or conversation that can be interpreted as contradicting the principle.

“Therefore, I call on Umno members to remain united and loyal to the party which is significant in today’s unity government in order to preserve Islam and dignify the Malay-Bumiputera agenda as enshrined in the Umno Constitution,” he added.
