KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Unity Government Secretariat chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today said that the unity government's national convention that is scheduled to take place on May 14 aims to ensure continuous political stability and to drive an agenda that benefits the people.

He said this will be the first national convention bringing together all 19 parties involved in the unity government.

“It is hoped that through this programme, it will be a starting point to create a more complete understanding and collaboration at the leadership level of political parties,” he said at a press conference at Menara Dato' Onn today.

He said that the national convention will serve as a stage for political leaders in the unity government to demonstrate their commitment and political determination to ensure political stability at all levels.

The Umno secretary-general added that the government wishes to begin an era of stronger cooperation from the national level to the state legislative assemblies.

“We cannot expect agreement and cooperation to be formed only at the top level.

“We need to demonstrate understanding and chemistry down to the grassroots level,” he told reporters.

The convention, themed "Madani: Mewajahi Masa Depan Malaysia" (Madani: Envisaging Malaysia's Future), will take place at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on May 14, featuring the women's convention and youths' convention.

Representatives and leaders of political parties, presidents of coalition parties, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are expected to address the convention.
