Astronaut describes how ISS crew dealt with invasion news

STORY: Maurer described how the international crew dealt with the news of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began during their mission.

"Fortunately the Russian colleagues addressed it directly. And I can really say now, in space we all agreed that we were all deeply shocked and affected by what happened down here on Earth. And there was no difference among us," he said.

Maurer added that the international space community could help build bridges after the end of the Ukraine war.

"As a space community, we have built so much trust, built so much hope in over 20 years and of course, people want to carry that forward," he said.
