Aston Villa will be on red alert after the agent of Udinese attacker Gerard Deulofeu admitted a transfer is likely this summer and explained how the Spaniard can influence matches.

Deulofeu already has plenty of experience in England, having played for Everton and Watford. He left Vicarage Road by signing for Udinese in October 2020. He spent the first half of that season on loan with the Italian outfit before opting to join them permanently in January 2021 thanks to a €17million transfer.

Deulofeu has gone on to register 18 goals and 14 assists in 68 appearances for Udinese. However, he could soon return to the Premier League with Villa.

On January 17, Italian source Tuttomercatoweb revealed Villa were in talks with Udinese over the versatile forward. Ultimately, his transfer did not go through before the January deadline. But Villa have since turned their attention to a summer deal for Deulofeu.

Tottenham have also struck up a surprise interest in him, although the lure of working with Unai Emery should help Villa to get him first.

Deulofeu’s agent, Claudio Pasqualin, has now given Villa a major helping hand by admitting Udinese are likely to make a profit in the near future by selling the 28-year-old back to an English club for €20m (£17.7m). He also spoke about how much Udinese miss his client when he is out injured.

“First of all, Deulofeu’s absence deprives the team of hope, because his plays turn the lights on and his mere presence instilled the hope of being able to change the course of the game,” the agent told Messaggero Veneto. “For the market, I only remember that after the experience at Milan, Deulofeu disappeared, but recovered well in Udine.

“He has requests, there will be offers, and then we’ll see. But I think that sooner or later, the investment made in him will be recovered.”

Aston Villa told forward target will be available

Villa chiefs will be delighted to hear that Deulofeu will be available for transfer this summer. They want to back manager Emery by signing his top targets and Deulofeu fits into this category.

As mentioned previously, Spurs could also enter discussions with Udinese for him. However, there are two reasons why the former Everton man could choose Villa over Spurs.

The first is managerial stability. Villa will stick with Emery for the next few seasons as they view him as the perfect coach to get them into the top six.

Spurs, in contrast, are set for a summer of change. Antonio Conte is expected to leave and could be replaced by Mauricio Pochettino or Thomas Tuchel.

The second factor to consider is game time. At Spurs, Deulofeu may struggle to play often. This is because of squad competition from the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.

But at Villa, Deulofeu would find it easier to force his way into the starting eleven. It will not be easy, as Emery can already play Ollie Watkins, Jhon Duran, Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Philippe Coutinho in attacking areas. However, breaking into Villa’s team is a more achievable goal for Deulofeu than trying to do that at Spurs.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain suggest Villa could capture a Real Madrid man and a player wanted by Barcelona.
